Administration Police (AP) Kabaddi took advantage of defending champions Kenya Police’s absence at the first leg of the National Kabaddi League, held on Saturday at Egerton University in Nakuru County, to dominate the competition and lead the table with 46 points.
An excited AP coach, Reuben Odipo, expressed confidence that they could open a gap that might be difficult for Kenya Police to close, despite the defending champions missing the Nakuru County showdown.
“I don’t know the reasons why they did not show up, that’s none of my business. I am happy because we are currently top of the table,” Odipo told Radio Generation on Sunday.
“We don’t just participate, we want to win this title. That’s why we are here and competing strongly,” he added.
AP now tops the table with 46 points, six ahead of second-placed Prisons Kenya, who have 40 points. Paradiso are third with 30 points, trailing by a significant ten-point gap, while City Panthers are fourth with 28 points, Marurui are fifth with 20, and rookies Egerton University, making their season debut, have 19 points.
Kenya Kabaddi Sports Federation (KKSF) Competitions Manager Perpetual Muthoni Mbutu emphasized that only athletes who participate in the league will be considered for the national team.
“You have to play in the league to be selected for the national team. We need to monitor your form, how good or bad you are, so that our national team coaches can advise athletes on how to improve their game at an individual level,” Mbutu said.
In Saturday’s games, AP beat Prisons 46-40, City Panthers defeated Marurui 28-20, and Varsity boys Egerton lost narrowly 19-20 to Paradiso.
A national team selection is now scheduled for March 6–7 in Nairobi, ahead of the Rectangle Beach Kabaddi World Championships in Malaysia on March 26, 2026.
